I'm not crazy about it though. It is indeed low-acid; I can drink it black with ease. Even without cream and sugar, the Puroast Low-Acid Coffee is without a hard felt kick, and I miss that more than I’d expected.

So I’m trying with Amazon again, this time with Weaver’s, which is bit more expensive, but has even more positive reviews.

It should get here within a week or so, and once I’ve had a chance to try it out, I’ll update this post.

UPDATE: Indeed - this Weaver’s coffe is amazing - and chock full o’ caffeine!

Back with Trader Joe's Diner Blend

I'm back drinking Trader Joe's Diner Blend! I was going to buy the cheapest coffee available, but when I read one of their "helpful notes" provided by their staff saying that lighter coffee has more caffeine, I decided to step it up.

Does Light Coffee Have More Caffeine?

I read up on it and it turns out that the amount of caffeine in coffee does vary by how much the beans have been roasted, but its more of a density factor, and it is a marginal difference.

In two common scenarios described by the Coffee and Caffeine FAQ, they describe restaurant dark coffee as having slightly more caffeine than light coffee, but freshly ground, spoon measured light coffee having slightly more caffeine than dark roast of the same preparation.

In conclusion: coffee and caffeine rock!

I like dark, strong coffee, which is why I sometimes refer to Dunkin Donuts' coffee as a coffee-flavored caffeinated beverage (though I do genuinely enjoy it when I buy it). Their rendition of a dark coffee is good too, but it almost tastes like they are trying to make it taste like dark chocolate. I love dark chocolate too, but I'm not sure how I feel about this coffee yet.

Maybe its because I now have a daughter who drinks a fair amount of milk? Anyway, I really like the way my coffee tastes now. I'm using a higher bean-to-water ratio, which obviously produces a higher concentration of caffeine, too!

I don't usually run out of coffee, but yesterday I did. I've started to use a higher beans to water ratio, so maybe that's why I ran out - who knows?

I'm headed to Trader Joe's today to buy some beans, and I'll probably go with the low-priced beans they've been selling lately, only about <del>$4</del>$3.49 for the smaller size cans they sell, which is about $1 less than the prices of the other beans they sell.

In the meantime, I've been drinking Trader Joe's Earl Grey Tea. Its a decent substitute, but definitely not a replacement!
